A Quick Update

Well our internet has officially stopped working but we are currently in Pana at an internet cafe, so here is a quick update on what we have been up to

Teams:

The are constantly new groups coming in. One that was here recently was a basketball team from Mississippi. They acted out Daniel in the Lion's Den for manna and taught them how to play basketball. Then they played a basketball team from Solola and afterwards shared the gospel with them.

Pana:

We spend most of our free time in Pana. We love sitting by the lake, walking through the market, finding new restaurants, and visiting our favorite coffee shop.

This is the delicious meal we got last weekend at our new favorite restaurant.

This is a chicken bus, it is hard to tell how crowded it actually is but I think the row in front of us had 10 people in it.

On our way home from Pana we get to enjoy the most incredible walk, with this breathtaking view.

We also got a chance to go watch Yamil play some futbol in Pana, so that was fun

And Hope finally gave me a haircut!

Problems

Hey everybody! I just wanted to let you all know that we have been having a lot of trouble with our internet. It has been super unreliable. Skype still works most of the time, but we can't access our email or the blog very often. So if you don't hear from us don't worry, we will try our best. Thanks for your patience!

Nit Picky

We will give you one guess to figure out why all the girls in the Children's Home got their hair chopped off...

That's right Lice!

Our week has been filled with talk of lice and thoughts of lice, and hours of picking lice out of kids hair. The chosen tactic here is to cover the kids hair with mayonnaise (we probably won't be eating that for awhile) and pick the lice and nits out one by one by hand. Hope even found a live one! As far as we know neither of us has lice so far... but we are keeping our eyes out for them.

El Fin De Semana!

Just A Monday Morning:

Welcome to first grade where our monday morning starts off with the classroom smelling like someone pooped their pants. Senor Zuly then proceeded to smell each of the kids to figure out which one it might be. The culprit was sent home to change. But the smell didn't go away. We then checked each of their shoes for dog poop, but didn't find any. So we sprayed air freshner, and cleaned the floor and eventually resorted to having class outside...But the kids were still complaining. So we decided one of the kids must just have bad gas, but since none of them would fess-up we made each one of them go to the bathroom one by one. We never found out who it was but at least it solved the problem.

Here are the kids having class outside

The Sabbath: Cuanto Nos Ama!

The sabbath is often called the Lord's day, and our sunday was definitely straight from God. It started with our church heading down to the lake for baptisms.

Then we went and had lunch in Pana at a restaurant called Sunset. It was incredible! The best food we have ever eaten, and an amazing view. We have never enjoyed a meal more in our lives! We will probably be going back every weekend since it is cheaper than Chipotle.

We spent the afternoon walking around Pana, shopping and eating Mango with Chile Powder! Delicious, but dangerous... we aren't sick yet :)

Then we ran into Pablo and Yamil! If you don't know who they are, they were our translators last time we were here. It was great to see them and catch up.

Then we went with Yamil to Solomon's Porch for worship. It was the first time in 2 weeks that we heard live worship in English. We didn't even realize how much we missed it until we were there.

When we were leaving Solomon's Porch we heard worship music coming from upstairs. So we went up to see what was going on and it was Ben's church! (Ben is the man that Rachel worked for last summer when she was down here) His church is incredibly spirit filled and their worship was amazing! They even played "How He Loves Us" (our favorite song) in Spanish! Unfortunately we had to go right after worship because we had to get home before dark. But we left Pana feeling incredibly blessed!

Saturday:

Saturday was another busy day. We tagged along with the Patlan's all day and got to attend a Quinceanera for one of the girls that attends the Manna Feeding Center. We went to the ceremony at the local Catholic church, and then got to go to her house for lunch, music, and cake!

Guatemalan's never smile for pictures, so as American's we always look a bit out of place.

We decided to try and get them to smile.

Then we tried to look like them. (Dorian wasn't very good at it)

Olga, Pedro, and Felis

Guatemalan's are incredibly resourceful. Don't want to eat your cake now? Take it to go! (We are definitely stealing this idea)

Saturday night we got to tag along to the Miss Solola pageant. Boy was that an experience... We were there from 6PM till 1AM. It really is rather difficult to describe here are some pictures... see for yourself

Hope fell asleep sitting up in the middle of the pageant. Pedro and I got great entertainment out of it.

These are the three finalists answering their final question. In case you were wondering, the girl in the red dress won.

We would describe it as one of the most painful, hysterical, and memorable experiences we have had.
